In each of these paintings, pages from road atlases or maps are glued and gessoed as an underpainting, and then scraped away in part to either reveal parts of a figure or background, or they are incorporated into a drawing, then the painting.

The maps are embedded into the composition to represent places, journeys, roads, travels, that become part of a person through time and experience. They reveal the person's attachment to an idea of home, and they try to help us understand the relationship between place, home, and belonging
